Research: Digipacks

A Digipak is a way of offering more content than a disk with a regular CD cover. It is a marketing tool offering a higher incentive to the buyer to purchase the hard copy rather than a digital download. It's extremely important for album sales as more people would rather stream for free or illegally than buy copies.

The incentive is basically added extras added to the Cd and Dvd in addition to the actual disk.

It includes Front, Back, Spine and four additional panels.

Generic covers always include:

Band/Artist Names, Album Title, Picture Cover.

Generic spines always include:

Band names, Album title, record labels, barcodes and a format

Back covers always include:

Band title, record labels, track list, barcodes, rights and holders, names of members, studios involved in recording and recording dates and websites.

Further generic inside covers consist of:
A track list, 2 page fold out with images of artists or  artwork and a bio or lyric book.

The other panels also consist of :

  • Membership post card, flier
  • lyric book
  • disk impressions
  • band info
  • free stickers/ posters
  • events and gigs
  • promos for other releases

American football's self titled album has all the additions included:
Firstly it has the typical colour scheme of the album and the band name, however as its self titled it doesn't have a album name. From this cover we can see it's name and also its genre it has picture of land scape and looks serine which is typically associated with shoe gaze or ballad genres.

Inside the cover we see all the additions included. There is two Vinyl disks, two photo albums and also lyric books and also a 2 page wide photo on the inside cover. It will also have band members and also record labels as well inside the cover.

Japandroids' 'near to the wild heart of life' has most of these included in their album:

Firstly their front cover consists of a colour scheme that is central to their bands' look, style of music and feel of songs. From seeing this any passerby can instantly see its part of an alternative or Rock and punk genre due to the typical leather jackets and black and white theme.
However this is an example of a bad cover since they didn't put their Band name or album title on the front cover which as a result could either intrigue people to buy and find out or skip it completely due the audience not knowing who they are.

Their vinyl also fits into the colour scheme of the black and white 'noir' theme. It has their name present on the top of the Vinyl and the album title at the bottom, and their record label (Polyvinyl records) at the bottom.

Included inside the vinyl has the main incentive to why people buy physical copies. There is a fold out poster of a live gig also in the colour scheme and also a booklet including lyrics, band information, and photographs.

Close textual analysis of 'hydeout productions' 2nd Collection:

Firstly the front cover shows an abstract color painting which sets the atmosphere of the soundtrack as alternative style of music. It's made from cardboard instead of the usual plastic which makes it much more pleasant to hold. It has the album title, Band/collection names typical of Cds.
The colours are usually red theme and have connotations of warmth

the colour sceme continues unt
